THE ART OF DECOUPAGE
Transform your La Marca bottle into the perfect fall gift
The Fall holidays are upon us. The question is, what are you bringing to the table? You love the bubbly brilliance inside every bottle of La Marca Prosecco, but did you know the bottle itself can be a beautifully crafted canvas? Whether you're hosting a Halloween soirée, attending a Friendsgiving, or searching for an elegant Thanksgiving table décor, a beautifully decoupaged bottle of La Marca is the perfect touch for all your fall celebrations.
1
Cover and Clean
Begin by covering all the labels with painter’s tape. Touch the sticky part of the tape to your hand several times before applying it to the labels to lightly reduce the adhesiveness, so it won’t damage the labels when removing it later. Then use lens wipes to thoroughly clean the glass bottle, removing any grease, dust, fingerprints, or residue.
2
Prime the Bottle
Prime your bottle using chalk paint, opting for a creamy or warm white shade as a background. Apply the paint evenly using a small foam brush. Two coats are recommended as it will give you the freedom to utilize the white space! Allow each coat to dry thoroughly—about 2 hours per coat.
3
Remove Tape and Touch Up
After the chalk paint has dried, carefully remove the painter’s tape, paying special attention to the corners around the label to avoid damaging it. Use a small paintbrush to touch up any imperfections around the labels and allow to dry.
4
Choose Your Decoration
Now for the fun part! You can use any decorative paper napkins for decoupage—but decoupage napkins are the easiest. Choose your desired theme, in this case, autumn napkins. You could also go in a more classic, season-agnostic direction if you prefer.
5
Extract the Images
First, remove the back layers of the decoupage napkin, leaving only the top layer with the images. You can either tear or cut out the shapes you want.
Pro tip: if you want to be exacting, use a small watercolor pen to trace around the images, making them easier to remove with precision.
6
Apply Decoration and Varnish
Use a gloss varnish and a super soft brush to paint a light coat directly underneath where you want your first paper image to go. Line up the image and apply it.
Pro tip: use a small wad of plastic wrap to smooth each image out so that it lies flush on the bottle, then lightly varnish the edges of the image onto the bottle. Repeat the process for every image, then allow to dry for about 2 hours.
7
Final Touch
Once the varnish has dried on all your applied images, apply a final thin coat of finishing varnish over the bottle to seal and protect your artwork. Consider multiple coats for a higher gloss finish. Allow several hours of drying time between each coat. Once finished, allow 24 hours to dry completely before gifting!
